Twitter updated its hateful conduct policy so that targeted misgendering and deadnaming trans people can be reported.- Clip Studio Paint released an update. There are now additional animation features as well as an AI-based auto-colorization command.
- Paper Cat Press is now accepting pitches for guest posts. Guidelines are available here.
- Tictail has been acquired by Shopify. In April 2019, the Tictail platform will no longer be available. Creators can migrate to the Shopify platform and use Shopify’s basic plan for free for 6 months, after which it will cost $29/month.
- Located in the US? Open enrollment for health insurance is ongoing through December 15. Find out more info here.
- SPX has created a legal aid fund in support of 11 indie artists and an indie publisher who are faced with a defamation lawsuit because they spoke out against another creator’s alleged pattern of sexual abuse. Please support their cause and send the message that survivors of sexual assault do not feel afraid to speak out against their abusers and supporters of victims should not pay for an abuser’s crimes.

Awards
The Goodreads Choice Awards are now accepting votes for their third round of voting through November 26. Be sure to vote for your favorite books, and check out the listings to find even more great books to add to your TBR lists! Here’s the list of Graphic Novels and Comics.
The Laydeez Do Comics Award is accepting applications from UK-based women (cis or trans) with a graphic novel work in progress. First prize will win £5,000, and 5 runners-up will win £200. The deadline for digital zines in January 11, 2019, and the deadline for physical zines is January 20, 2019.
The 2019 Lambda Literary Awards are accepting submissions through December 1. Yes, comics are eligible. There is an entry fee of $50 per book.
The 2018 James Tiptree, Jr. Literary Award is accepting submissions of science fiction or fantasy works that explore or expand notions of gender through December 1.
The Jhalak Prize is accepting written works by UK-based writers of color published in 2018 until December 15. The selected recipient will receive £1,000.
The 2019 Dwayne McDuffie Award for Diversity is accepting submissions of comics and graphic novels through December 31.
Bitch Media is accepting submissions of leaders from marginalized communities for their Bitch 50 Awards.

Crowdfunded Projects
Pocket Bear Press is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to produce Monstrously Queer Comic Anthologies Monster Journey and For the Love of Monsters. Monster Journey features transmasculine creators telling tales set in worlds where monsters roam, and For the Love of Monsters weaves five tales of movie-inspired monsters and their human lovers. The previously published Bear Company is also included in the Kickstarter. Tier options include digital and physical copies of all three books (available separately, as well). The Kickstarter ends on December 2.
Artist Mira Ong Chua is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to produce ROADQUEEN: ETERNAL ROADTRIP TO LOVE. When heartthrob Leo’s motorcycle Bethany is stolen by newcomer Vega, they strike a deal that puts Leo’s dignity and heart on the line. The book will feature 272 pages of black-and-white comics recommended for readers 18 and up. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, a bookplate, and postcards. The Kickstarter ends on December 3.
Fortuna Media is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to fund Almost Real: a Speculative Biology Zine (Volume 2: Flight). Much like the first volume, which was published earlier this year, Almost Real‘s second volume is a 60-page full-color ode to Zoobooks, encyclopedia entries, and speculative fiction. Tier options include digital and/or physical copies of either the first or second volume of Almost Real, or both; a poster; enamel pins; a patch; and original artwork. The Kickstarter ends on December 5.
Hiveworks is currently raising funds to print the ongoing comic Cut Time – Book 1. Inspired by astrology, music, and 90s anime, Cut Time is a fantasy adventure comic that follows a blind nomad named Rel, her seeing-eye falcon, and her newly recruited friends, on a journey to bring order back to a world that’s lost track of time. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, a digital wallpaper, an enamel pin, postcards, and a signed bookplate. The Kickstarter ends on December 8.
Sam and Ari are currently raising funds on Kickstarter to produce Goldfinch: Volume One. Set in the war-torn city of Portica, the LGBT high-fantasy turn-of-the-century gangster noir comic centers Leah, a recently hired getaway driver for the gang managing bootlegger lounge The Goldfinch, and Oran, its eccentric owner. Tier options include digital and physical copies of Goldfinch, a PDF of Woodlands, a print, bookmarks, a sticker sheet, a digital booklet of concept art, a comic cameo, and a commission. The Kickstarter ends on December 12.
TO Comix Press is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to produce the Shout Out Anthology. Shout Out features 18 queer YA stories told in a 216-page anthology of full-color comics created by queer contributors from around the world. Tier options include digital and physical copies of Shout Out, prints, enamel pins, an illustrated book plate, additional TO Comix Press comic anthologies, and custom commissions. The Kickstarter ends on December 14.
Comic artist Melissa Capriglione is currently raising funds on Kickstarter to produce Falconhyrste: Issue #4. The supernatural LGBT+ ongoing webcomic features Cei, a new student at a boarding school who accidentally awakens a demon, and the friends he makes along the way. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, copies of previous Falconhyrste issues, a digital sketchbook, stickers, pinback buttons, prints, trading cards, a plushies, and commissions. The Kickstarter ends on December 16.
Haunted Cosmos Press is currently raising funds to produce Strange Waters: A Queer Water Fantasy Anthology. The anthology features queer water-based and aquatic-influenced black-and white fantasy comics developed and created by 16 queer creative teams. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, a bookplate, postcards, stickers, commissions, and original artwork. The Kickstarter ends on December 18. (Note: I’m in this anthology!)

sther, an alternative to Patreon, is in its pre-launch phase. They’re offering free 3-month memberships to artists who sign up. If you’ve taken issue with the censorship on platforms like Patreon and Ko-Fi, they may be worth checking out!
KinkRebel is accepting email addresses, if you want to be notified when their service launches. Like Patreon, it’s a subscription-based system that creators can use, but specifically for creators of adult/18+ content.

- Antenna is accepting unpublished comics and Guidebooks focused on some aspect of New Orleans at any stage of completion through today, November 30. There is a submission fee of $20. Artists of selected comics will receive an honorarium of $500, 50 printed copies, and royalties of $1/book should it be reprinted.
- Moonlight: A Queer Werewolf Anthology is accepting pitches from comic creators and writers through today, November 30.

- The Representation Matters Mentorship Program is accepting applications on a rolling basis from self-identified people of color interested in the publishing industry. Mentorships will last 6 months, with a minimum of one session every two months.
- The Google Podcasts Creator Program is accepting applicants through December 2.
- ProPublica’s Emerging Reporters Program is accepting applications from college students of color interested in journalism through December 2. Accepted applicants will receive a $9,000 stipend, mentorship, and trips to the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting conference and the ProPublica New York office.
- (Chicago, IL) The Onion is accepting applications for 2 fellowship positions until December 7. Fellows are paid a monthly stipend and participate in The Onion’s entire editorial process.
- The Reflect America Fellowship is accepting applications from early- or mid-career journalists for the opportunity to be a fellow at NPR for 18 months through December 9.

- Arte Público Press is seeking bilingual (Spanish/English) children’s book manuscripts to be considered for the inaugural Salinas de Alba Award for Latino Children’s Literature. Recipients will be published, receive royalties, and will be awarded $5000. Submit your work by December 31 for consideration.
- PFund Foundation is offering individual grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 and is accepting applications from LGBTQIA people living in the upper midwest until January 15, 2019.
- Koyama Press is accepting applications for OAC’s Recommender Grant for Writers until January 16, 2019. Applicants must be in Ontario and may receive between $1,500 and $5,000.
- The Will Eisner Graphic Novel Grants for Libraries are accepting nominations through January 18, 2019. Read the press release here.
- The Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers is accepting applications from Black poets and fiction writers who are full-time students in undergraduate and graduate programs through January 31, 2019. Find out more here.
- The Creators for Creators Grant is accepting applications from single cartoonists or writer/artist duos until March 18, 2019. Applicants must not have ever been published by a third-party publisher, and stories pitches must be between 64-100 pages upon completion.
- A number of micro grants are available for marginalized writers.
- The Awesome Foundation offers $1000 grants on a rolling basis.
- Black Rainbow offers microgrants of $300 to LGBQTI people of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community that includes $200 to assist with hosting Indigenous LGBTQI community events.
- The Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism is accepting applications from artists on a rolling basis. Artists covering data privacy, the 2018/2020 elections, the role of technology in society, political influence campaigns, harmful technologies, countering disinformation, and artificial intelligence may receive $500 to $5,000 in grants.

- Are you a professional freelancer experiencing financial duress? The Haven Foundation offers grants and assistance to applicants with chronic illness or injury or other career-threatening emergencies.
- The Spare Change Grant Program offers one grant of $25 each month to a person of color and/or gender minority to be used for covering application costs for residencies and calls for submissions. Apply by the 25th of each month for a chance at the award.
