Kickstarter United has received several commitments from Kickstarter management indicating a fair process moving forward with union negotiations and has agreed to a media blackout as a show of good faith.
- Supporters of Kickstarter United can look to this page for ideas on how to show their support. NOTE: Paper Cat Press supports the union and will follow their lead in the use of Kickstarter.
- SPX has created a legal aid fund in support of 11 indie artists and an indie publisher who are faced with a defamation lawsuit because they spoke out against another creator’s alleged pattern of sexual abuse. Please support their cause and send the message that survivors of sexual assault do not feel afraid to speak out against their abusers and supporters of victims should not pay for an abuser’s crimes.

The Penguin Random House Library Award for Innovation Through Adversity is accepting applications from US libraries and staff who overcome adversity and create lasting innovative community service programs that successfully inspire and connect with new readers. A $10,000 cash award will be given to a US library, and four runners-up will receive $1,000 in Penguin Random House books.
The Ladies of Horror Fiction Awards is accepting submissions of works of horror created by women (cis or trans) until December 31. The awards will be announced in 2020.
The Massachusetts Book Awards are accepting fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children’s picture book, early reader books, and middle grade/young adult literature by residents of Massachusetts until December 31 (postmark date).
The Ladies Do Comics Award is accepting submissions of long form graphic novels in process from women in the UK. Digital forms must be submitted by January 5, 2020 and printed books must be received by January 26, 2020.
The Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic is accepting novel-length books and short fiction by Canadian authors published in 2019 until January 31, 2020.
The 2020 Excellence in Graphic Literature Awards is accepting submissions of fiction and nonfiction graphic novels published in 2019 until February 1, 2020.
The Ripped Bodice Awards for Excellence in Romantic Fiction will announce its winners on February 14, 2020. While there is no formal submissions process and judges are tasked with making note of memorable romance fiction, you are welcome to submit your work for consideration.
The SFWA Nebula Awards are accepting nominations from Active, Lifetime Active, and Associate SFWA members in good standing until February 15, 2020, 11:59pm PST.
The Myriad First Graphic Novel Competition is accepting submissions of graphic novels in process from creators who have not yet published a full-length graphic work until February 28, 2020.
Crowdfunded Projects
Artist Yoshi Yoshitani is currently raising funds to produce kitsune-themed apparel line KITSUNE. Tier options include an enamel pin, hat, posters, a belt bag, a collar chain enamel pin duo, and a reversible jacket. The campaign ends on December 14.
The Nib is currently raising funds to publish Be Gay, Do Comics: A Queer Comics Anthology. The anthology features 250 pages of full-color comics and queer history, memoir, and satire by more than 30 contributors. Tier options include digital and physical (hardcover) copies of the anthology, a tote bag, stickers, buttons, enamel pins, and past issues of The Nib. The campaign ends on December 19.
Forward Comix is currently raising funds to publish Gwan Anthology, Volume Two. The anthology features full-color comics from fifteen international creators that center the immigrant experience. Tier options include digital portions of the anthology, complete physical copies, and commissions. The campaign ends on December 19.
Mariah Bryant is currently raising funds to publish Six-Petal Pyramid Chapter One. The comic, serialized currently on Patreon and WEBTOON, follows a young woman who discovers a reanimated mummy in the attic of a deceased archaeologist’s ‘haunted’ house, and the development of their relationship. The series is rated mature for readers 17+ with some LGBTQ themes. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, stickers, mini prints, mini posters, and custom artwork. The project ends on December 20.

- inQluded is accepting nominations of awesome, inspiring QTIBIPoC people for features in their magazine and platform.
- Jaleesa Rosario of the University of Michigan is looking for Black creators and creators of color who do business online as artists to fill out an anonymized survey. Participants will receive a small stipend for their time.
- Kickstarter will be hosting its make100 promotion again in January 2020.

Threadless is accepting artwork for the following challenges: Patterns Remixed, due December 13; Dada, due December 20; and Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year (which is “they”!), due December 30.
- Visual AIDS is accepting short narrative comic proposals for their upcoming exhibition until December 20. Artists need not have previous experience. Artists living with HIV are highly encouraged to apply.
- The Wool Woof Webcomic Collective is accepting webcomic applications until December 26.
- WildStar Press is accepting submissions for Tales of the Unknown: A Cryptid Anthology until January 1, 2020.
Clip Studio Paint is holding their 22nd International Illustration Contest with the theme of “festival” and is accepting works until January 8, 2020. The grand prize winner will receive 200,000 JPY.
The U.P. Zine is accepting submissions from contributors with experiences related to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula until January 15, 2020. All contributors will receive a print copy of the completed zine in late spring 2020, and any profit outside of production costs will be donated to a U.P. based charity.
- Spectrum 27 is accepting entries until January 23, 2020. The single entry fee is $20 per entry.
- The Great Command Meant is accepting comic proposals until January 31, 2020. The anthology will be funded through Kickstarter, though the percentages that contributors will receive is not stated.
- The 13th Silent Manga Audition, in collaboration with UNESCO Asia & Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, is accepting submissions of manga-style comics with the theme “together for peace” until January 31, 2020.

Permission to Write’s mentorship program is accepting writing mentors until December 15 and Black writers and writers of color as mentees until December 31.
- (Brooklyn, NY) A Public Space is accepting applications for its Editorial Fellowship program through January 15, 2020. Accepted fellows will be expected to spend 15 hours a week at A Public Space from March 15 through December 15, and will receive a $10,000 stipend.

The Alaska Robotics Comic Camp (April 23-28, 2020) is accepting applications until December 16.
- (Homer, AK) The Storyknife Residency is accepting applications from “woman-identified or nonbinary” writers for 2- or 4-week long residencies until December 31.
- (Bronx, NYC) The Kundiman Retreat for Asian American writers at Fordham University is accepting applications until January 15. There is a $25 application fee and non-refundable tuition fee of $375 for those accepted. Scholarships are available.
- Light Grey Art Lab opened applications for two upcoming art camps: one in Japan ($2,295), and one in Costa Rica ($2,150). Payment plans are available.
