- In response to COVID–19 and the hardships many creators are facing as a result, WEBTOON is extending the current 100% net ad revenue support for CANVAS creators through the end of 2020, with the final 100% net ad revenue payout happening January 2021 for December revenue.

Awards and Prizes
- The Hurston/Wright Legacy Awards are accepting submissions from Black writer in America and across the globe until December 18. Mailed submissions must be postmarked by December 13. Eligible books include debut fiction, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, as well as collections of short stories, and collections of essays by one author, but do not include genre fiction such as romance or mystery works. There is an application fee of $40.
- Nilah Magruder shared this Illustration Awards Masterlist. Scroll down to the Resources section to see even more that Nilah has contributed to the community for free. Thank you so much, Nilah!
- The Penguin Random House Library Award for Innovation Through Adversity is accepting applications from US libraries and staff who overcome adversity and create lasting innovative community service programs that successfully inspire and connect with new readers. A $10,000 cash award will be given to a US library, and four runners-up will receive $1,000 in Penguin Random House books.
- The Will Eisner Graphic Novel Grants for Libraries are now accepting applications through February 7, 2021. Two grants will provide support to two libraries that would like to expand their existing graphic novel services and programs; the other will provide support to a library for the initiation of a graphic novel service, program or initiative. Each grant recipient will receive $4,000 divided between different objectives.
Crowdfunded Projects
Gary is raising funds to publish Incoming!, a sci-fi anthology. The 72-page perfect-bound black and white mini-book features three 20-page comics, a short prose story, and a creator interview. Reward options include a digital and physical copy of Incoming!, a sticker, a behind-the-scenes PDF, art cards, and a t-shirt. The campaign ends on December 21.

- Do you run a small business selling hand-made items? Sign up to be a part of Paper Cat Press’s Holiday Market! Beginning the week of November 23 through the end of the year, I’ll be listing shops that sell hand-made items, including art or writing commissions, accessories, clothing, crafts, prints, and more.
- FIYAH Literary Magazine is seeking a Technical Assistant to work with the Webmaster/Art Director L.D. Lewis in maintaining the magazine website and responding to customer support inquiries. The role pays a stipend of $100/month plus annual bonus of $200 per year on staff, and can be fulfilled remotely. Apply by December 21 for consideration.
Go Komikimok, a collective of SEA creators, is now open. They recently released a series of resources: “The Comic Creator’s Guide to Graphic Novel Pitch Packets” and “The Comic Creator’s Guide to Literary Agents.“
- Abelle, the creator of the #DrawingWhileBlack hashtag, has moved the directory to AirTable. Please add your name if you are a Black artist!
- If you’re a Filipino artist, add your name to the Filipino American Artist Directory!
- #APIpit is a Twitter pitch event for Asian/Pasifika writers and illustrators during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The inaugural event will be held on May 4, 2021. Learn more here.

- The results of the Comics Workforce Study 2019 is now available. Thank you Sasha Bassett for all of your work in collecting and parsing this data!
- Threadless is currently running the following design challenges: the 20th Anniversary, due December 25.
Echoes of the Mist, a collaborative mermaid-themed tarot project, is accepting portfolio submissions until December 15. All proceeds will be donated to the Coral Restoration Foundation.
Level Ground Comics is accepting pitch submissions for upcoming comic anthology The Greatest Hits: A Comics Mixtape. Final works should be 4 pages long and rated at most “PG.” Contributors would be paid $50/page upon successful Kickstarter completion. Submissions are due by December 15.
- Hindsight (2020), an open-submission, digital anthology that seeks to answer the question, “What must the future remember and know about 2020?” is accepting submissions until January 1, 2021. Comics, photography, illustration, essays, short fiction, poetry, or anything else that can be put into a PDF is welcome. This project is unpaid.
- XP-Pen is hosting an art contest with the theme “My 2020: Joy or Sadness?” Prizes include the XP-Pen tablet displays, Submissions are due by January 5, 2021.
- Heebie-Jeebies, a horror comic anthology project, is accepting submissions until January 31, 2020. Contributors will receive a copy of the final printed anthology.
- The Silent Manga Audition is accepting comic submissions with the theme “Moments of Crying, Smiling, or Love” until January 27, 2021. The grand prize includes 500,000 ¥ and more!
- Oneshi Press is accepting submissions for a comic anthology based on the theme of “Becoming.” Artists or writers may submit individually and later be paired, or submit as a unit. Final works must be 8-page comics. All submissions of comics, scripts, poems, art portfolios, and cover art concepts must be received by April 7, 2021.
- Illustrators can take the State of Illustration international survey here.
- Illustrators and literary agents: With the help of Cameron Decker and Houndstooth Designs, the Agents for Illustrators list is now a searchable directory. Conventions and Events
Many conventions and major events have been cancelled due to travel restrictions, guest cancellations, and preventative responses to the spread of coronavirus. Here is a list of cancelled and postponed conventions. Please check in frequently with any event you have planned through 2021. And, as always, wash your hands.
- The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) will take place December 10-12 in 2021.
- DVcon, a product of #DVpit, is a free, two-day virtual writers conference for self-identifying marginalized book creators. It will take place January 30-31, 2021.
- Emerald City Comic Con has rescheduled its event for December 2-5, 2021.

- ViciousMinutesHour is accepting applications from Black Trans folk for two Artist-in-Residence positions. The artist-in-residence opportunity pays $225 CDN per week and serves as a space/time grant, providing an additional source of income for the general work applicants do as an artist.

- The Arts and Culture Leaders of Color Emergency Fund is sending US-based BIPOC artists and art administrators whose income has been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic payments of $200. Click the link to apply or to donate.
- The Awesome Foundation offers $1000 grants on a rolling basis.
- The Biome Collective Grant for Digital Creatives is accepting applications from artists in Scotland from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds until January 8, 2021. The no-strings attached £500 grant is intended to support you and your work however that help is most needed.
- Black Rainbow offers microgrants of $300 to LGBQTI people of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community that includes $200 to assist with hosting Indigenous LGBTQI community events. (CURRENTLY ON PAUSE)
- The Covid-19 Aid Funds website lists funding opportunities.
- The Eyebeam Center for the Future of Journalism is accepting applications from artists on a rolling basis. Artists covering data privacy, the 2018/2020 elections, the role of technology in society, political influence campaigns, harmful technologies, countering disinformation, and artificial intelligence may receive $500 to $5,000 in grants.
- Gumroad’s Creators Fund is accepting applications on a rolling basis. Gumroad will be allocating $50,000 in creative grants of $500 to $5,000 throughout the year.
- Are you a professional freelancer experiencing financial duress? The Haven Foundation offers grants and assistance to applicants with chronic illness or injury or other career-threatening emergencies (excluding COVID-19).
- My Documented Life maintains a list of scholarships for undocumented students.
- Canadian artists and cultural connectors are welcome to apply for grant funds through the Professional Development for Arts Professionals of Supporting Artistic Practice. Details on how and when you can apply are available on the page.
- Point of Pride has established the COVID-19 Emergency Fund to connect trans people to small grants for short-term expenses.
- Springboard for the Arts offers an Emergency Relief Fund for personal and community disasters that affect artists in Minnesota. (CURRENTLY ON PAUSE)
- Tulsa Remote is accepting applications from remote workers who are willing to relocate to Tulsa, OK in exchange for reduced rent and a total of $10,000 over the course of a year.
- The Working Class Writers Grant is accepting applications until December 31. Applicants should be working class, blue-collar, poor, and homeless writers of speculative fiction. A selected recipient will receive $1,000.

Baffling Magazine is accepting flash story submissions through December 15. Submissions should be under 1,200 words, and should be speculative stories that explore science fiction, fantasy, and horror with a queer bent. Submissions are compensated at $0.08/word.
Scholastic is accepting agented and unagented submissions from BIPOC kidlit creators until December 15.
- FIYAH Lit Mag is open to unthemed prose and poetry submissions until December 31.
They’re also hiring Non-Fiction Editor and are accepting applications until December 31.
- Neon Hemlock Press is accepting submissions of queer speculative short fiction for upcoming anthology We’re Here: The Best Queer Speculative Fiction 2020 until December 31.
- PodCastle is accepting submissions of fantasy fiction and/or speculative short stories at 6,000 words or less to be narrated by performers. PodCastle pays $0.08/word USD for original fiction 6,000 words or less, $100 flat rate for reprints over 1,500 words, and $20 flat rate for flash fiction reprints (stories below 1,500 words). Submit by December 31 for consideration.

- Stellium Literary Magazine is accepting fiction, nonfiction, prose poetry, and art from all Black people and QTPOC through January 15. Contributors are paid an honorarium of $50. Stellium is also seeking volunteer editors.
- NineStar Press is accepting pitch submissions of LGBTQIA+ romance and/or literary fiction stories from writers of color for upcoming YA anthology: ReImagined: Twist It. Submit by February 1, 2021 for consideration.
- The Griot African Storytellers Competition is accepting short story submissions set in an African context with the theme “Adventure” from African writers located anywhere in the world until January 29, 2021. There is a $5 reading fee.
Bitch Media is accepting pitches for their 91st issue with the theme “plastic.” Submissions will be accepted until February 22, 2021.
- Improbable Press is seeking submissions for the Cryptids Anthology until May 1, 2021. They pay 0.05¢ American per word for stories up to 5,000 words.
