- In response to COVID–19 and the hardships many creators are facing as a result, WEBTOON is extending the current 100% net ad revenue support for CANVAS creators through the end of 2020, with the final 100% net ad revenue payout happening January 2021 for December revenue.

Awards and Prizes
Submissions for the 2021 Excellence in Graphic Literature Awards are open. Publishers and creators can submit original graphic novels and other graphic literature published during 2020 for consideration in the awards. Publishers or creators may submit their titles for consideration by completing the online submission form and uploading a PDF of the title, or you may arrange your preferred method of file transfer by emailing egls [at] popcultureclassroom.org.- Nilah Magruder shared this Illustration Awards Masterlist. - The Penguin Random House Library Award for Innovation Through Adversity is accepting applications from US libraries and staff who overcome adversity and create lasting innovative community service programs that successfully inspire and connect with new readers. A $10,000 cash award will be given to a US library, and four runners-up will receive $1,000 in Penguin Random House books.
- The Sequential Magazine Awards, fan-voted awards that allow Canadian comic fans to show appreciation for their favorite local indie comics and creators as well as discover more great Canadian made comics, is now open for voting.
- The Prism Awards are accepting applications from queer authors with comics that promote representations of LGBTQIA+ characters through February 28.
- The Eisner Awards is accepting submissions for consideration until March 15.
- Nominations are now open for the 2021 Hugo Awards, the Astounding Award for Best New Writer, and the Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book. Members with an attending or supporting membership for DisCon III or CoNZealand are eligible to nominate. The nomination period closes March 19 at 11:59 p.m., PDT.
- The 2021 Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailer Award is accepting nominations of comic retailers until April 16.
Crowdfunded Projects
Wildstar Press is raising funds to publish The Curse of Clan Blackwood by River Kero. The historical horror fiction graphic novel explores the weight of generational legacies and their consequences via Harland Blackwood, the last aristocrat in the Blackwood family who must save his lover from the cosmic horror that haunts him. Reward options include digital and physical copies of The Curse of Clan Blackwood, postcards, and stickers. The campaign ends on March 2.
ENBY Magazine, a North American independent magazine produced by and for non-binary people, is raising funds for The Future of ENBY Magazine. The main goal with the campaign is to construct a sustainable framework to use to make ENBY Magazine, with additional goals of publishing the Mind & Body double issue, the ENBY Magazine podcast, and paying for the continuation of the work on digital platforms. Reward options include digital and print copies of the Mind & Body issue of ENBY Magazine, stickers, a t-shirt, a shoutout in the first episode of the podcast, a video call with the editors, and a full-page ad. The campaign ends on March 2.
Scotty Glory is selling a pre-order of a shirt with a design reading “you are loved” to raise funds for funeral expenses and living costs. The design is available on 4 different types of shirts from sizes S-XXL in a variety of t-shirt colors. Order by March 2 to secure your purchase, and expect the shirts to be shipped on or near March 9.
The art collective of Dames Zine is raising funds to produce Dames: Warrior Women of Legends. The art book features 60 illustrations of different warrior women from legends all around the world, with a quick introduction to each artist and the woman they illustrated at the end of the book. Reward options include digital and physical copies of the book, postcards, prints, stickers, an enamel pin, a patch, and a notebook. The campaign ends on March 4.
Comic artist Kristen Kiomall-Evans is raising funds to publish the third and final volume of Magic & Muses. The magical girl trilogy follows students gifted with magical, transformation-inducing necklaces in a seemingly mundane and restrictive school environment who must learn to work together to overcome their adversaries. Reward options include digital and physical copies of volume 3 and previous volumes, a print, a pinback button, and a commission. The campaign ends on March 4.
Illustrator Geneva Bowers is currently raising funds to publish their art book Weightless. Featuring works from 2020, the art book is “inspired by an oscillating feeling of both quiet, rest, wonder and freedom, with a respect for nature and the ethereal.” Reward options include a physical copy of the art book, digital or physical copies of a coloring book, a notebook, postcards, and an exclusive print. The campaign ends on March 6.
Djinn Labs is currently raising funds to publish The Mighty Gang, Volume 1. The action/fantasy/adventure comic features a trio (and cat) whose paths cross when they realize they all have powers that can be used to fight “Daimonics,” intelligent demon-like creatures who pursue power for their own mysterious ends. Reward options include the softcover book, enamel pins, mini prints, and a cameo as a background character or Daimonic. The campaign ends on March 8.
NSFW! Pink Pitcher is currently raising funds to publish Tutoring, a short erotic fantasy comic. Tutoring features two characters from Root & Branch in a sexual, consensual afternoon tutoring session. Reward options include digital and physical copies of Tutoring, Root and Branch, and postcards. The campaign ends on March 10.
Mira Ong Chua is raising funds to publish Goodbye, Battle Princess Peony. The dark f/f romance features magical girl Peony, whose fate is to save her world from Divine Lady Silkrose. But after she’s accidentally warped into Silkrose’s private academy for villains-in-training, will the secrets she learns and the feelings she harbor change her destiny? Reward options include digital and physical copies of Goodbye, Battle Princess Peony, a digital wallpaper, a paper doll PDF, a book plate, stickers, prints, an enamel pin, and past comics by Mira Ong Chua. The campaign ends on March 12.
Samn Judge is raising funds to publish COSMIC SUMMER: A Sci-Fi Vacation Anthology. The collection of eight all-ages sci-fi comics and illustrations takes place aboard the intergalactic cruise ship The Alula and features 52+ full-color pages. Reward options include digital and physical copies of the anthology, stickers, postcards, and a patch. The campaign ends on March 17.

- Go Komikimok, a collective of SEA creators, is now open. They recently released a series of resources: “The Comic Creator’s Guide to Graphic Novel Pitch Packets” and “The Comic Creator’s Guide to Literary Agents.“
- Abelle, the creator of the #DrawingWhileBlack hashtag, has moved the directory to AirTable. Please add your name if you are a Black artist! The next #DrawingWhileBlack will take place from February 26-28.

- ENBY Magazine is seeking a U.S. based QT(BIPOC preferred) individual who can work as a music manager, videographer, etc.
- Kara created the hashtag #SmallArtistFair to help artists with shops and follower counts under 10,000.
- #APIpit is a Twitter pitch event for Asian/Pasifika writers and illustrators during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The inaugural event will be held on May 4. Learn more here.
- The first-ever #PitchDis, a Twitter pitch event for un-agented disabled authors, is coming Tuesday, June 22.

- WIT Studio has teamed up with Netflix to offer a full scholarship to Tokyo’s Sasayuri Video Training Institute’s anime course. Hitomi Tateno, an animator who has worked on several of Studio Ghibli’s biggest releases, has designed and will be teaching the six-month course, called the WIT Animator Academy. Spaces are limited, with only ten available, but those chosen will also receive funding towards the cost of living. To be eligible, applications need to have graduated from high school by March 2021, be between the ages of 18 and 25, and be living in Japan. Non-Japanese citizens may apply and while fluency isn’t a requirement, they must have conversational Japanese. Apply by February 28 for consideration.

- The results of the Comics Workforce Study 2019 is now available. Thank you Sasha Bassett for all of your work in collecting and parsing this data!
- The Creative Capital Awards is accepting applications from artists with projects that redefine and reimagine what art is and what it can do until March 1.
- Natural Wonders, a zine based on nature via the green stripe in the pride flag, is accepting applications and pitches through March 11. Contributors will at least receive a PDF of the final zine, with at least £10 per page and a physical copy of the zine given to contributors in the event of crowdfunding success.
- Oneshi Press is accepting submissions for a comic anthology based on the theme of “Becoming.” Artists or writers may submit individually and later be paired, or submit as a unit. Final works must be 8-page comics. All submissions of comics, scripts, poems, art portfolios, and cover art concepts must be received by April 7.
- Clip Studio Paint is accepting submissions for its International Comic/Manga Schools Contest with the theme “Admiration” until April 29.
- WinC Magazine, the official publication for Women in Comics Collective International (WinC), is accepting submissions for their summer issue through April 30. Comics, prose, and poetry are welcome and creators of accepted submissions will be paid (visit website for pay schedule).
- Illustrators can take the State of Illustration international survey here.
- Illustrators and literary agents: With the help of Cameron Decker and Houndstooth Designs, the Agents for Illustrators list is now a searchable directory. Conventions and Events
Many conventions and major events have been cancelled due to travel restrictions, guest cancellations, and preventative responses to the spread of coronavirus. Here is a list of cancelled and postponed conventions. Please check in frequently with any event you have planned through 2021. And, as always, wash your hands.
- The Black Nerds Expo is hosting a mini virtual convention on February 26 from 10AM – 5PM. Exhibitors who sell only original art (not art of copyrighted franchises) can apply for a free virtual table space.
- CAKE, the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo, has been postponed until a proposed date of June 2022.
- Cow House Press is hosting a teen queer webcomic club from February 14 to April 11.
- The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) will take place December 10-12 in 2021.
- Emerald City Comic Con has rescheduled its event for December 2-5, 2021.
- FIYAH Con will take place September 16-September 19. They are accepting sponsors, non-tax deductible donations, programming pitches, and volunteer applications.
- FujoCon (June 11-13) is accepting applications for its virtual artist alley tables until February 28.
- Black speculative fiction writers can email events [at] sfwa.org for instructions on how to claim a free registration for the ongoing 2020 Nebula Conference Online.
- Sakura-Con 2021 has been cancelled. Memberships for 2021 will be forwarded to 2022.
- Short Run Comix and Arts Festival has been postponed. The Short Run Dash Grant is now on hold.
- TCAF, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (May 8-15), is accepting applications from exhibitors for TCAF, Canzine, or CxG 2021 until March 3. This year’s festival will be digital.
Thought Bubble 2021 (November 13-14) is accepting applications from potential exhibitors until Midnight GMT on Sunday, February 21.- Virtuous Con, a free, interactive sci-fi and comic culture virtual convention, will take place February 20-21.
- The in-person WonderCon has been cancelled, but a WonderCon@Home virtual event will take place on March 26-27.

- The Leonard A. Slade, Jr. Poetry Fellowships for Poets of Color and The Voices of Color Fiction Fellowships are accepting applications from people of color ages 18 and older until February 22. - Bookouture is offering free editorial feedback on works from writers from under-represented backgrounds through February 20. Writers may submit a synopsis and up to 10,000 words of their book, and within six weeks of submitting, writers will receive detailed feedback from the editorial team on elements such as genre, structure, characterization and style.
- Bitch Media is accepting pitches for their 91st issue with the theme “plastic.” Submissions will be accepted until February 22.
- David Luis Glisch-Sánchez and Nic López-Rodríguez are accepting submissions for Sana, Sana: Latinx Pain and Radical Visions for Healing & Justice until February 26. Submissions can be in Spanish, Spanglish, or English. A modest honorarium will be paid to authors of accepted pieces. They encourage all Latinx writers/creatives to submit for consideration.

- The Penguin Random House Creative Writing Awards is accepting submissions from high school seniors until March 1 or whenever 1,000 applications are submitted, whichever comes first.
