Awards

The Dwayne McDuffie Award is accepting applications from diverse comic creators and diverse works. Submissions will be accepted until December 31.

The Laydeez Do Comics Women’s Prize for Unpublished Graphic Novels in Progress is accepting submissions from UK female-identifying comic artists until January 13, 2018. The selected winner will receive £2,000, and five runner-ups will receive £200 and a one-on-one critique session with an acclaimed graphic novelist. Submit 12 pages of a comic project for consideration.

Her Blood and Bone is running a Kickstarter to raise funds for its printing and fulfillment. The art book is a collection of 31 pen-and-ink illustrations by artist Angela Boyle portraying animal women, each one accompanied by stories of dark humor. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the book, a print, and commissions. The Kickstarter ends on December 5.

Cloudscape Comics Society is running a Kickstarter to raise funds for their tenth anthology Swan Song – The Music Anthology. Over 20 artists from British Columbia and beyond created short comics about the influence music has on their lives. Tier options include digital and physical versions of the book (available in soft- and hardcover), enamel pins, postcards, digital copies of other Cloudscape books, and more. The Kickstarter ends on December 9.

Not So Super Publishing is running a Kickstarter to produce Inclusive Picture Books Kids and Adults Will Enjoy! The Kickstarter aims to raise the funds necessary to publish and fulfill orders for inclusive children’s books Gumgah and the Grumpledonk, illustrated by Micheline Hess, and The Booger Queen, illustrated by Christine Larsen. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the books, custom portraits, and original artwork. The Kickstarter ends on December 13.

The Sun and the Wayward Wind: Relaunch is relaunching their campaign to produce and fulfill their anthology. The book features 180 full-color pages with contributions by fourteen comic creators and ten illustrators who explore legends and lore from North America. Tier options include digital and physical copies of the anthology, a digital desktop, postcards, patches, and commissions. The Kickstarter ends on December 13.

Artist M. Victoria Robado, aka Shouri, is running a Kickstarter to raise funds to produce and fulfill CMYKitty Purse, Pins, Patches and more! Sassy Kitty Pins. Shouri is using her CMYKitty design, wildly popular as an enamel pin, to produce a purse and coin bag. Tier options include patches, stickers, enamel pins, a coin bag, a purse, and signed “Thank You” postcards. The Kickstarter ends on December 15.

Habibi: A Muslim Love Story Anthology is raising funds on Kickstarter for its production and fulfillment. Habibi features the prose and comics of Muslim women contributors and their reflections on love, be it familial, platonic, or romantic in nature. Available digitally or as a softcover, the anthology consists of 147 black-and-white pages featuring Muslimah perspectives. Tier options include physical and digital copies of the book, postcards, and prints. The Kickstarter ends on December 21.


wanderlust

WANDERLUST: A Mythology Anthology is a new anthology project raising funds for production and fulfillment on Kickstarter. Wanderlust reimagines legends and lore from around the world with the help of comics, illustrations, and prose crafted by nearly 50 contributors. Tier options include digital and physical copies of Wanderlust, prints, commissions, and an original customized illustrated story. The Kickstarter ends on December 21. There’s a Black Friday tier available until Saturday night, so check it out!


CROSSPLAY

NSFW! Iron Circus Comics‘ Smut Peddler Presents is running a Kickstarter to support the publication of CROSSPLAY: An Erotic Graphic Novel by Niki Smith. CROSSPLAY follows a group of friends reconnecting at an anime convention during their summer break from college. Relationships, gender, and sexuality are explored over 150 pages of black and pink comics. Tier options include digital and physical versions of CROSSPLAY, digital copies of other works by Niki Smith, and a bookplate. The Kickstarter ends on December 28.

The Black Magic Zine is running a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo to raise funds for production, fulfillment, and donation to the United Way of Genesee County’s Flint Water Fund. Over 35 black women and nonbinary artists contributed illustrations and comics of black women in the fantasy genre. Tier options include digital and physical versions of the zine, stickers, prints, and an enamel pin.

Comics, Illustration, and More

Threadless is accepting design submissions with the theme of winter until December 8 and metamorphosis until December 15. You can submit designs outside of contests anytime here.

Omenana is accepting submissions of art and writing from creators from Africa and the African diaspora until December 2. Submissions should be speculative, hopeful, previously unpublished, and involve characters, settings, or themes directly related to the Africa continent.

The 120 Project Comic Anthology Project is accepting submissions of social justice comics 1-2 pages long through December 15. Contributors will not be paid, as the anthology will be funded through Kickstarter with proceeds going to the ACLU.

Queerly Represent Me is accepting submissions of writing and art pertaining to queer representation in video games and any related intersections of diverse representation and expression in media until December 31. Accepted submissions will be collected into a zine and contributors will receive evenly split compensation depending on funds raised.

Weekly Shonen Jump is holding a Universal Manga Contest with MediBang! They’ve even made a free new program, Jump Paint, to help illustrate and tone your creation. You can submit up to 5 entries in any genre at a length of 55 pages or less. Submissions are due January 5, 2018.

Knock Knock, the Tech Noir edition, is accepting submissions of illustrations, comics and prose involving technology and futurism through January 26, 2018.

Volume 5 of the Lilies Anthology: Tiger Lily is accepting comics about self-love through February 14, 2018.

Hellcat Press is accepting pitches for horror anthology Screams Heard ‘Round the World through February 28, 2018. Accepted entrants will receive $20 and a free copy of the final book.

The Myriad First Graphic Novel Competition is accepting applications from artists and writers who have not yet published a complete graphic novel. Applications close February 28, 2018.

The Oneshi Press Quarterly Anthology accepts progressive comic and illustration work on a quarterly basis. Their next due date is March 1, 2018. Contributors are paid through quarterly royalties and surrender first right of publication and right of first refusal after publication.

The Silent Manga Audition‘s 9th competition event is accepting submissions through March 31, 2018. This SMA has a limit of 16 pages or less and a choice of three themes to select from. Comic submissions should be silent and without dialogue.


404 Ink is seeking comic contributors for We Shall Fight Until We Win, an anthology celebrating the women who helped achieve the right to vote in the UK.

AfterLight Comics is seeking a colorist for an upcoming horror comic.

Alex Hoffman of Sequential State is looking for an artist to create a new header for his page.

The Writers’ Award 2018 is accepting submissions of 20,000-30,000 words from unpublished authors residing in the British Commonwealth through December 13. The selected applicant will receive £10,000.

I Need Diverse Games has applications open for its GDC Scholarship, which will award 25 individuals with Conference + Summits packages to the 2018 Game Developers Conference. Applications close December 14.

The Soros Equality Fellowship seeks to reward $100,000 to emerging mid-career applicants pursuing innovative projects focused on racial justice. Applications are due by December 20.

The Will Eisner Graphic Novel Growth Grant is accepting applications from libraries with ALA memberships seeking to expand their current graphic novel collections and services. The Will Eisner Graphic Novel Innovation Grant is accepting applications from libraries with ALA memberships who would like to initiate a graphic novel program. Applications for both are due January 26, 2018.

The Creators for Creators Grant for $30,000 is accepting applications from single artists or writer/artist duos to support the creation of original comics work. Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2018.

The Asexual is accepting works from asexual writers of color for their fourth issue “On the Intersection of Race and Asexuality” until December 20.

Angry Robot is accepting submissions of completed SF/F manuscripts from unagented writers during their Open Door period. Submit by December 31 for consideration.

Book Smugglers Publishing is accepting short story submissions with the theme of “awakenings” until December 31.

Game Studies is accepting submissions of writing 6500-8000 words in length for their special issue on “Queerness and Videogames.” Intersectional perspectives on queerness in and around video games are welcome. Please read the submission guidelines before submitting your final work, which is due by December 31.

Lethe Press is seeking submissions for A Midas Clutch: Tales of Opulent Horror for horror stories featuring the wealthy, due by December 31. Queer speculative fiction is preferred. Stories featuring negative perspectives of LGBTQ+ individuals will be rejected.
